North-West College Receives CAPPS 2020 Silver Award for Excellence in Community Service

Honor Underscores College’s Ongoing Commitment to Serving the Local Community

WEST COVINA, Calif.—The California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) recently named North-West College (NWC), West Covina as the Silver Award recipient for its 2020 Excellence in Community Service Awards—highlighting the College’s efforts to raise more than $25,000 to support the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

“It has been incredible to see our College come together to support Relay for Life and do our part to stomp out cancer,” NWC President Mitchell Fuerst. “We are humbled to receive this honor from CAPPS as a result of our efforts to make a difference in our community.”

Inaugurated in 2016, the CAPPS Service Awards are designed to recognize and encourage initiatives in community service, service learning, and civic engagement that have a significant impact on the communities served by CAPPS member schools.

The “We Care” Team at North-West College placed water bottles in each classroom to encourage donations to the American Cancer Society “one dime at a time”—raising more than $25,000 for the organization. In addition, NWC Team Members and students formed a team to participate in the Relay for Life event. They also volunteered to greet individuals as they arrived, help them register for the event, and even sold lemonade to contribute toward their fundraising goal.

“At North-West College, we are absolutely dedicated to changing lives through quality education, but it’s about more than that,” Fuerst shared. “For us, it’s about how we can continue to reach out and give back to the individuals and families in the communities we serve. The College’s ‘We Care’ program reaches beyond our classrooms and campuses.”
