North-West College and Yesi Ortiz Partner to Award Second Back to School Scholarship
$10,000 Award Represents Ongoing Commitment to Changing Lives Through Education
WEST COVINA, Calif.—On Monday, July 13, 2015, Terrell Johnson became the second winner of the Yesi Ortiz Back to School Scholarship, a $10,000 award toward one of North-West College’s (NWC) programs. Hosted by Power 106 FM, the first scholarship award was valued at $1,500. North-West College and Ortiz, known as the Voice of LA and official spokesperson for NWC, agreed to increase the scholarship’s value with the goal of reducing financial barriers for individuals who want to go back to school.
“I am so excited and honored that I have the opportunity to help make it possible for people to go back to school and start a new career,” Ortiz said. “This scholarship to North-West College is life-changing—and it gives me great pride to be a part of it.”
Johnson explained she was thrilled to hear she had won. Interested in medical billing in coding, she was excited to learn about the College’s Online Medical Billing & Coding program and she recently met with team members at the North-West College Long Beach campus to learn more about how to enroll.
“I’m so grateful for this opportunity,” Johnson said. “I love the idea of having a flexible career as a medical biller and I’m so looking forward to the security this kind of job can provide.”
Ortiz and North-West College plan to offer the Yesi Ortiz Back to School Scholarship periodically as they continue to partner to change lives through quality education.
