North-West College to Offer Student Grants Through CARES Act

Assistance Underscores College’s Commitment to Supporting Students During Coronavirus Outbreak

WEST COVINA, Calif.—North-West College (NWC) will soon be providing grants to eligible students through the CARES Act. Passed on March 27, 2020, the legislation brings nearly $2 trillion in economic relief in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic—with $6.28 billion recently released to colleges and universities to provide to students who meet the criteria.

“Our College leadership is working together to determine the disbursement policy for these funds and release them as quickly as possible to eligible individuals,” explained Chief Compliance Officer Serjik Kesachekian. “We are grateful for the chance to offer additional financial assistance to our students whose lives and educations have been thrown into upheaval as a result of the spread of the Coronavirus.”

Unlike other federal grants earmarked for tuition, these funds are designed to offer relief for students facing additional costs for things such as course materials and technology, along with basic expenses including, housing, childcare, health care, and even food. The goal is to lessen the economic impact of COVID-19 on students and their families to avoid derailing their educational career path.

“We are excited to see these CARES Act dollars give our students the extra financial support they need to continue their educational journeys in the midst of this crisis,” explained President Mitchell Fuerst. “It has been amazing to see our faculty and staff rally around our students even as we have transitioned our learning online. Our students remain at the heart of everything we do—even in these trying times, we are still a community united for a common cause—to change lives through quality education.”
