Glendale Career College Offers Enhanced Learning Opportunities through New Mobile Simulation Laboratory
Students and Health Professionals Gain Relevant Skills as They Practice Delivering Patient Care
GLENDALE, Calif.—This fall, Glendale Career College (GCC) expanded its training capabilities with the launch of a new Mobile Simulation Laboratory (MSL). Designed as a lab on wheels, the MSL houses two examination rooms—each with a high-fidelity simulation manikin that enables Registered Nursing students to practice providing bedside care through a variety of computerized simulation scenarios.
“At GCC, we are always looking for ways to provide our students with the best training possible,” explained Chief Strategy Officer SerjikKesachekian. “This Mobile Simulation Lab is yet another way the College is raising the standard for quality vocational education.”
A hallmark of Glendale Career College’s programs, hands-on learning opportunities allow students to cement their learning and hit the ground running when they enter the health care field. Prior to graduating, students at the College must complete an externship, where they practice their new skills in a real-world hospital or clinic setting.
However, students sometimes encounter a limited number of scenarios during their clinical externships. The Mobile Simulation Labopens up a world of opportunities for these individuals. The MSL’s manikins operate by presenting symptoms, such as a cough and a high fever, which gives students a chance to properly care for and diagnose the patient.
“The lifelike simulations that students will encounter in the MSL are invaluable,” shared Kesachekian, “offering nearly firsthand experience our students can take with them as they enter the World of Work.”
In addition to GCC students, the Mobile Simulation Laboratory is also available to the College’s clinical partners. Hospitals and clinics can request to use the MSL onsite at their facilities to train or re-train new staff and existing employees. The lab enables current health care professionals to sharpen and refresh their skills, making it a great resource for continuing education and professional development.
“We are changing the face of health care training through this state-of-the-art lab,” Kesachekian said. “We firmly believe that better trained health care professionals means better care for the countless patients who rely on these individuals every day.”
